SOAP Bible study method
Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer. After your daily reading, write one verse, what it says, what it means for you, and a short prayer.
S · Scripture
Read the day’s passage. Write out one verse that stands out to you, word for word.
O · Observation
What does it say? Who is speaking, to whom, and why? Note repeated words and what comes just before and after.
A · Application
What does it mean for you today? One specific thing to believe, stop or start.
P · Prayer
Write a short prayer that responds to the verse.
Example: Philippians 4:6
Scripture. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Observation. Paul is writing from prison. He doesn’t tell his readers to stop having needs; he tells them to bring every need to God, with thanks.
Application. Instead of rehearsing tomorrow’s meeting, I’ll name it to God and thank Him for one thing about today.
Prayer. A sentence or two in your own words.
